Navicom Dynamics offers two ways to get position and heading:
• Satellite GPS (with or without DGPS corrections)
• Nav-Dif – an exciting new solution based on RTK float
Nav-Dif is a new solution that gives the accuracy of RTK without the stability and locking
problems. It is also a much lower cost system than RTK.
Nav-Dif is exclusive to Navicom Dynamics.
Nav-Dif gives you 20cm accuracy with greater robustness than you can expect from RTK. At all
times it is backed up by DGPS giving 50cm accuracy.
In comparison, RTK requires expensive base stations. Many users have found it relatively
difficult to achieve and maintain Lock mode, which gives the highest accuracy. If Lock is not
achieved, RTK will revert to Float - and an accuracy of about 40cm. If Float fails, the PPU
operates on raw GPS of 2.5m.
Nav-Dif requires a single base station in the critical manoevre area. The base station costs less
than half the price of an RTK station. Beyond the high precision area (about 5 KM), the system
operates in DGPS with 50cm accuracy.
It works with HarbourPilot Ruggedised and HarbourPilot Lightweight units. Both are less
expensive than an RTK-enabled portable unit. Nav-Dif is particularly suited to ports with
surrounding structures that might otherwise obscure satellites, and to ports which are very busy
or have tight turning basins.
Nav-Dif is the best of both worlds. For a minimal extra outlay, it gives you RTK accuracy when
you need it, and DGPS at all other times.
