ShuttlePilot

ShuttlePilot is a precision navigation system for the offshore oil and gas industry.  It provides the
pilot and master with a real-time, accurate and independent picture of the relative positions and
movement between two vessels. It will monitor and control shuttle tanker approaches for FPSO/FSO
offtake operations - both tandem and alongside mooring.

ShuttlePilot will:

  • Monitor alignment of vessels during tandem mooring offtake operations for early warning of
    developing jack-knife situation.
  • Monitor and control shuttle tanker approaches for SPM operations
  • Monitor and control FPSO/FSO approaches for mooring reconnection operations

Components

ShuttlePilot is made up of three main components:

ShuttlePilot Fixed (SPF), which is permanently installed on the facility and supplies real-time
positioning, velocity and heading data

ShuttlePilot Portable (SPP), which is carried on board the tanker, and also supplies real-time
positioning, velocity and heading data

And ShuttlePilot Display (SPD). There is one SPD case on the tanker (and also on the facility and/or
tug if they need to monitor the operation).  SPD has the display laptop, the ShuttlePilot Remote
unit and all extras such as cables, batteries and power packs.  It also has a UHF antenna for
communications between the components.

The SPR (ShuttlePilot Remote) receives, combines and transmits both sets of data to the pilot/master's laptop.
It operates wirelessly.
