HarbourPilot![]() HarbourPilot is a high-precision Portable Pilot Unit, providing marine pilots with independent, reliable information on the ship's position, heading and movement - improving port safety and efficiency.
HarbourPilot gives pilots the FULL picture, with precise confirmation of what is really happening - invaluable in poor visibility conditions.
HarbourPilot - Navigation Mode In navigation mode, HarbourPilot clearly and accurately displays where the ship is in real time, against the background of an approved electronic chart. It also provides a predictor that shows the vessel's future positions, including when turning. This allows very early assessment of whether a turn to negotiate a bend in the channel is going fast enough (or too fast) - allowing early adjustment of the rate of turn and much better conformance with the optimum path through the turn.
HarbourPilot enables rapid detection of cross currents in approaches to the port - and confirmation that corrective action being taken is sufficient. It also displays the limits of safe navigable water, using the vessel's draft, desired under-keel clearance, and tidal conditions.
HarbourPilot - Docking Mode HarbourPilot provides a number of significant advantages over other systems: during all phases of the approach, HarbourPilot shows the ship's position, heading, and movement with respect to the berth. While laser docking systems show information only when the ship is overlapping both laser guns, HarbourPilot shows it throughout the pilotage - including the intial approach to the wharf. Whereas a laser docking system only shows athwartships speeds for the points opposite the lasers, HarbourPilot displays them for the ends of the vessel. It also shows longitudinal speed and provides the option to show distances of the bow or stern off other wharves. In addition to Navigation Mode:
